The Dance Department provides an opportunity for all pupils to:

  • Assist their physical growth through structured and controlled exercise;
  • Participate in a wide range of activities; improve their range of skills whilst enhancing their confidence and performances skills.

To further achieve this, the school runs afterschool clubs and also hosts a large dance show with a wide variety of dance styles on display.

Specialist Teaching Rooms and Staff

We have two fully equipped Dance Studies with Wall mirrors and surround sound system.

This department has 2 full-time of staff.


Key Stage 3

Years 7, 8 & 9

  Key stage 3 is on a carousel and will take part in either dance or drama for three half terms. Pupils are excepted to develop their technique and performances skills.

A central aim of Dance in Years 7, 8 and 9 is to further develop pupils’ confidences and physical ability by;

  • Creating an environment for learning whereby pupils develop their confidences and to take part in learning new dances styles.
  • Encouraging pupils to apply their skills across a range of Dance styles.
  • Giving pupils a heightened awareness of the long-term health benefits (physical, social and mental) of physical activity;
  • Giving all pupils the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities.


Key Stage 4

Years 10 & 11

Pupils are able to choices Dance as a choice. Those studying BTEC Dance have three practical/theory lessons per week.  In addition they must also attend a minimum of one extra-curricular clubs to help prepare for their practical examination.

A central aim of Dance at Key Stage 4 is to maintain pupils’ enthusiasm for participating in dance. Pupils are encouraged to participate in activities which develop personal fitness and which also promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Pupils will be taught to:

  • Explore and develop dance skills and review their own practices.
  • Use dance skill to show rehearsal and performances skills.
  • Take part in the preparations for a live performances
  • Demonstrate performance or production skills and techniques in a performances
  • Evaluate their performances and show improvement in their work.
  • take part in competitive activities outside school through community links or dance clubs
