Key Stage 4

AQA GCSE Performing Arts gives pupils the opportunity to perform to ‘live’ audiences as well develop their knowledge and understanding of Drama techniques.

The two year course is divided as follows:

Year 10/11:

1)      Too Much Punch for Judy- exploring and interpreting a Mark Wheeller script.

2)      Blood brothers – exploring and interpreting Willy Russell’s famous musical.

3)      Monologues – an opportunity to perform solo to a ‘Live’ audience.

4)      Devised Theatre – to create a drama piece based upon the teacher’s stimulus.

These four Units are examined by the Teacher and a Portfolio (written work) is completed for each unit (60%)

End of Year 11:

All Drama pupils participate in the final Performance Showcase. This is in front of a ‘live’ audience and will take place one Evening in March/April. Afterwards pupils are to complete a 2000 word evaluation describing, explaining and analysing the rehearsal procedure. (40%)

 

Future Opportunities

GCSE Performing Arts allows pupils to study this subject at ‘A’ Level or BTEC, then at degree level at University. There is also the opportunity to study at a Specialist School  i.e Guildford School of Acting, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Further education gives pupils the opportunities to train to be, for example, actors, teachers, directors.

 

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Pupils have the opportunity to be involved in school productions such as ‘Wizard of Oz’, ‘Our Day Out’, ‘Grease’ and ‘King Lear.’
