KS3 Students Take Part in Bolton Schools Sport Primary Cricket Competition
Monday, 16th June 2025
On Wednesday, 11th June, a group of students from Key Stage 3 proudly represented our school at the Bolton Schools Sport Primary Cricket competition, held at Westhoughton Cricket Club.
Their role, on this occasion, wasn’t to play cricket as performers, but to lead, acting as umpires, scorers and mentors for the younger primary school pupils taking part in the tournament. This opportunity followed the students’ recent participation in a Young Leaders in Cricket training course, delivered by the Lancashire Cricket Foundation the previous week.
Our students did a fantastic job of embodying the Harper Values, guiding and supporting the younger players with patience, professionalism and a clear passion for the game. Their involvement was crucial in ensuring the smooth running of the event and they approached their responsibilities with maturity and confidence.
Hishan, a Year 8 student, reflected on the experience: "It was a great challenge and I really enjoyed being able to apply what I’ve learned about cricket. Umpiring gave me a chance to use my knowledge of the rules in a real life game situation and it felt good knowing the younger players were looking up to us."
Year 8 student E-Jay also shared: "It was an amazing opportunity to show leadership. Keeping score and helping run the games wasn’t easy, but it taught me a lot about being fair and staying focused. I think we all learned something and we had fun doing it!"
Staff and event organisers praised our KS3 students for their professionalism, teamwork and supportive attitude throughout the day. They upheld the spirit of the event and demonstrated a strong sense of community and commitment, helping create a positive and encouraging environment for the young cricketers.
The event was a celebration of cricket and also as a valuable learning experience for our KS3 students, who clearly rose to the occasion. They returned to school having demonstrated leadership, deepened their understanding of cricket and lived out the Harper Values in every sense.
Well done to all involved!
