Harper Green Students Take Part in Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze Practice Walk
Monday, 13th April 2026

A group of Harper Green School students recently took part in a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze practice walk as they prepare for their upcoming expedition.
Starting from Rivington and Blackrod High School, students made their way through the surrounding countryside, including Anglezarke and Lower Rivington Reservoir. Working in small groups, they developed their navigation and map reading skills, building confidence ahead of the assessed expedition.
It was great to see students working together throughout the day, supporting one another and approaching the challenge with a positive attitude. The walk provided a valuable opportunity to build confidence in key expedition skills such as navigation, route planning and decision-making
Mrs Fercsi, DofE Lead, said: “We were really pleased with how the students approached the day. They worked well together, showed great determination and made good progress with their navigation skills.”
The practice walk marks an important step in their Duke of Edinburgh journey, with students now continuing their preparations for the qualifying expedition later this term.
