Leverhulme Community Litter Pick

Friday, 27th June 2025

Our students recently joined forces with students from Rivington and Blackrod High School and Lostock Primary School for a Trust community litter pick, helping to clean up local green spaces and show pride in the areas around our schools.

As part of Leverhulme Trust’s Climate Action Plans, student leaders from each school worked together to tackle litter in key areas across the community. The day was all about working as a team, making a difference and continuing the momentum from this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

The clean up started at Lever Park near Rivington and Blackrod High, then moved on to Tempest Park by Lostock Primary, and finished with a big effort at Harper Green Fields. Students were joined by staff, local volunteers and Bolton Council teams, including members of the Bolton Borough Litter Picking Volunteer Group.

One Harper Green student said, “It was actually really fun – we got loads done and it felt good doing something positive together.”

Vicki Guest, Sustainability Lead for the Trust, summed it up perfectly: “It was a fantastic day of teamwork, civic responsibility and personal growth. Our pupils showed real pride in their local areas and the power of pupil leadership.”

Thank you to everyone who took part, especially to Gareth Pike from Love Bolton Hate Litter and our amazing local volunteers. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
