Year 9 DofE Students Successfully Complete Practice Expedition

Wednesday, 7th May 2025

In preparation for their final expedition, a group of Year 9 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students successfully completed their practice walk in Rivington on Wednesday, 30th April 2025.

Students were split into four groups, each accompanied by a member of staff. Using maps and compasses, they navigated the full 15km route themselves, making decisions independently and demonstrating excellent teamwork throughout the day.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a nationally recognised programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and gain valuable experiences beyond the classroom. At Harper Green, opportunities like this are a key part of our wider commitment to personal development, helping students grow in confidence and resilience.

With their practice expedition now complete, the group is preparing for the final challenge, which takes place from Thursday, 15th May to Friday, 16th May. They’ll be tackling new routes, carrying full rucksacks, cooking meals on stoves, and camping overnight.

Well done to all the students for their fantastic effort and positive attitude—we look forward to seeing how they get on in the final expedition!
