Monday, 23rd June 2025

A group of Year 9 students stepped into leadership roles as young sports leaders during Lostock Primary School’s ‘Football Day’ on Friday, helping to officiate matches and support the smooth running of the event. Their efforts made a significant impact and their professionalism and positive attitude were praised by everyone involved.
The students took on key responsibilities such as refereeing matches, managing the schedule and guiding younger pupils throughout the day and their support allowed the event to run smoothly and created a welcoming and fun atmosphere for the primary school children.
Mrs Barnes-Gray, Headteacher at Lostock Primary School, shared her appreciation:
“They were an absolute credit to Harper Green School. The staff at Lostock Primary School could not praise them enough and I was told it was the smoothest it's ever been run. They were polite and good humoured. Such lovely young men the school are no doubt extremely proud of."
The event also provided a meaningful learning experience for the Harper Green students involved. Reflecting on the day, Theo said:
“It felt great to be trusted with that level of responsibility. I really enjoyed working with the younger pupils and it helped me become more confident in leading others.”
Jack also spoke about his experience: “Helping out at the Football Day was a lot of fun. It showed me how much work goes into running an event like that, and I’m glad we could help make it such a success.”
Opportunities like this give students the chance to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills in real-world settings, while also making a positive contribution to their community.
Harper Green School is incredibly proud of the Year 9 students who took part and for demonstrating the school’s core values of respect and resilience in such a meaningful way.
