A Successful and Memorable Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition

Wednesday, 21st May 2025

Last week, a group of our students took part in this year’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition — and what an experience it was!

Starting from Rivington and Blackrod High School, the group made their way through the beautiful Rivington countryside, tackling scenic (and sometimes challenging!) routes as part of their adventure. They supported each other brilliantly, showed real resilience in the heat while carrying their full expedition kits and finding their way.

After an amazing first day, all groups made it to camp at Bibby’s Farm by 4pm. Once they had set up their tents and lit their stoves, the students all enjoyed a well-earned rest — with lots of laughter, happy faces, games, and shared stories from the day. It was wonderful to see everyone relaxing and enjoying the outdoors together.

Day two started bright and early, and our students were up, packed, and back on the trails — navigating independently and showing just how confident they’d become. The final stretch to Liverpool Castle was tough, but they kept going with real determination and finished on time.

Mrs Fercsi, who led the expedition, said:

“This was my first year leading DofE, and I couldn’t have wished for a better group. Their teamwork, positive attitudes, and maturity made the whole experience not only a success but such a joy to be part of. Seeing them support each other and grow in confidence was really special. They were a credit to Harper Green and to themselves.”

A huge thank you to all the amazing staff who gave up their time to support the expedition. And a huge well done to every single student involved — you were fantastic!
